Designed for a Purpose

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. Luke 5:5-6

And Jesus said unto Simon, fear not, from henceforth thou shalt catch men Luke 5:10b

Peter was an experienced fisherman, that was his secular job. He knew it well, I assume he fed his family with the income from it. That was his career so to say.

However on this particular day, the fishes just refused to come, business was bad, he had done all he knew to do with nothing to show for all his efforts and so when the Lord asked him to fish again, he responded by telling the Lord his frustrations probably wondering why he had to try again.

Why did Jesus asked him to try again at what he had failed at? Was the Lord trying to explain something to Peter? Undoubtedly yes! and soon after he succeeded at what he failed at initially, the Lord dropped the main line,  'From henceforth you shall catch men.

Jesus wanted to show to Peter that catching the fishes which Peter needed desperately as he laboured all night for was nothing for the Lord.

His daily need was not hard for the Lord.

When he uttered that statement, the Lord was saying to him 'Peter, you are cut out for bigger and better things. God designed you for something different from what you are doing. Nothing wrong with catching fishes but that is not what you were created to do.

There is a personal message here for you and I if we carefully glean from this episode between the Lord and Peter? What is the message?

Message 1: The Creator had a plan before you were born and had it recorded.  Let's read Psalms 139:13,16 (NLT)

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

The whole plan for your life here on earth was concluded by God before you were born, now all you need do is live out that plan here on earth, any other thing outside that plan can only be met with frustrations and unanswered questions.

When a man is living out God's plan for his life, other things he needs to survive will be automatically added to him. That's what Jesus was trying to explain in Matt 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

Message 2: Know who you really are and live it.
A lot of Christians don't really know who they are hence it's easy for them to mingle with the crowd and follow the flow.

Who are you?
Among the children of Isreal were the Levites, the Levites were the priests, they were the only one that keep the charge of the sanctuary, they are the only one that can come near the altar to offer sacrifice, that was their calling for life and as long as they served in this office, God provided for their upkeep.

They didn't need to struggle with others, others didn't struggle with them as they knew who they were, others also knew who they were as a result of this calling upon their lives.

1Peter 2:9 (ICB)
But you are chosen people
You are the King's priests
You are a holy nation
You are a nation that belongs to God alone
God chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done
He called you out of darkness into his wonderful light

You are special, different for a reason, designed by the Master for a purpose.

Your main task here on earth is to find out what this plan is and carry it out.

An orange tree automatically brings forth oranges, the day it looks at the apple tree and decides it wants to bring forth apple, its struggles begin and it will only be met with frustrations, but as long as it stands in the design God made it to be, it will effortlessly bring forth oranges every season.

This is same for you, God made you and I solely for himself.
Rev 4:11b says ' for thou has created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Deep satisfaction comes from completely finding your place in the Lord and in what you were designed for, not what came along your way or what others are doing.

Jesus provided the net braking fishes for Peter then said to him ' You were designed to catch men not fishes, if you catch men, fishes are a by product. In other words, do what you were created to do, fulfil the master plan for your life, your daily needs are nothing for the Lord, He will abundantly provide.

How do I find out the plan?

John 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.
People often say, I don't hear the Lord, how do I hear?
Well, Jesus is saying in the verse above that his sheep hears his voice.
What does this mean, It means the Lord is always speaking, you need to be quiet to hear, you need to get away from all the noise, cares, worries of this world, seek the Lord , ask him and you will begin to hear him.

Jeremiah 29:13 - And ye shall seek me and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Those that are genuine and really want to know what they were created to be, will seek the Lord and they will find out. God wants to tell you more than you want to know because it is in living out his design for your life that you can be completely fulfilled.

Seeking the Lord with all your heart is not a 30 mins with a devotional in the morning. It goes beyond that, you need to be sitting at his feet like Mary did in Luke 10:42, listening to his word by studying it and meditating on it day by day and cutting out activities that are not edifying in your life.
God knows those who are serious and are desiring to hear from him.

If you can honestly say you are fulfilled with where you then maybe this message is not for you, however if you have asked the question 'Is this all my life is about, is this what I am cut out to do? to wake up in the morning, go to work, earn my wages, pay bills, then go to work again then your heart is desiring for more from God and it is time to ask the Lord.

Inside the design of God for your life is prosperity, joy, peace and abundance because where God guides, he provides.
