Recently as
I went through some documents on project management principles, this caught my
attention……...
‘Change is
an inevitable part of any organisation, without it all organisations would
cease to exist as they would stagnate and be overtaken by competition.
Even in
organisations that do not operate in a competitive market there are pressures
from both within and outside the organisation for improvements and
efficiencies.
These pressures lead to the need for change’
It really got me thinking as even though this might be referring to organisations, I do know it relates to human being as well.
Today I will
like to talk about growth/change.
Deuteronomy
1:6
The Lord our
God spake unto us in Horeb. Saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount.
God does not
like stagnancy.
God is not responsible for where you are if you are not growing in every aspect of your life and so if you desire to grow, it will not just happen automatically, you have to pursue growth.
God can prompt you through His spirit that you are not where you should be, you might have a godly dissatisfaction with the level where you are and desire change but without pursuing change and doing something about it, you won't see that change. That is a fact!
To desire is one thing, to pursue your desire is another thing.
You cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. NO! It won't happen, and this is where change comes in.
Are you prepared to change? No, then you might as well stop reading this, however if your response is yes, then please read further.
Change starts with your mindset, doing something about the way you think, the way you place limits on yourself and the way you are at ease with accepting your status.
The way you have done something for years is not producing result, time is ticking by, yet you keep doing the same thing, do you not think it's time for a change?
You are not getting the result you desire so you conclude it cannot be done yet the same thing you say cannot be done is being achieved daily by others!
Of course they are not achieving by doing nothing! They are doing what a lot of people are not ready to do.
Change will cost you something!
Change
requires effort, a lot of it.
For example it takes effort as a believer to commit to studying and meditating on the word day and night everyday before you begin to see the result.
David said in Psalms 119:103, how sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea sweeter than honey to my mouth.
To know the taste of honey you have to put it in your mouth first, so also the word of God.
Change will
challenge the way you do things, change requires learning something new, change
will expose your weakness/inadequacies which is a good thing as then you
realise where to work on.
Change might even require you to change your
location which is scary for a lot of people.
Only the very
determined embraces change!
Do you know we will be very concerned if a three year old continues to crawl and refuses to walk and run, how do you think God feels about where you are presently?
Are you crawling, walking, running or flying?
If you are
still where you were few years ago spiritually, materially, etc, then you
should be concerned.
Look at where you
are now, do a self review and score yourself?
Can you
honestly say your unbelieving neighbour will look at you wholistically and be challenged to
serve your big God?
Are you
discouraged and frustrated that things are not working
and you really do not know what to do? Are you prepared to change?
In the verse
above, God had to give the children of Israel a little kick in the bottom to
move. Why?
He had
already pronounced them blessed and given them the land but they just stayed
put.
They had become used to that mountain where they dwelt even though that
was not God’s best for them and since moving requires effort even though it
will take them to their promised land, they were not ready to move.
It takes
courage, faith, determination and effort to leave your comfort zone and do
something different from what you are used to.
A lot of
believers are sinking because where they are, even though they are not getting the result they
desire but they look around at other believers like them and say things like
this ‘well, everybody is like this or I am a bit
better than some people I know so they relax, but is that God’s best for you?
Let’s read
what Apostle Paul said in
2 Corintihians 10:12
For we dare
not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend
themselves, but they measuring themselves by themselves and comparing
themselves among themselves are not wise.
He is saying
you are not wise to compare yourself with others.
You should
only measure your life with the word of God, not with others and of course the word of God will reveal a lot to you.
Even if all
the people you know are average minded, you should be shooting for the sky and
setting high goals.
If they are sick, you should live in perfect divine health,
if they are barely surviving; you should be flourishing for that is what the word
of God says about you.
You should
study the word yourself and find out what it says about you.
You should know that
concerning your health, the Bible says no plague shall come near your dwelling
(Psalms 91:10), hence diseases should not dwell in your body and you should stand
on that word and command that sickness to leave.
You should
know that the bible says the works of your hand is blessed (Deuteronomy 28:12) and
you will be above only and not beneath (Deuteronomy 28:13) hence you should not
struggle in your finances, you should be dissatisfied with poverty.
You should
know the bible says you will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that
bringeth forth its fruit in due season (Psalms 1:3); a tree by the rivers of
water do not struggle to bring forth fruit.
It produces effortlessly.
That is
who you are in Christ!
Deep within
you, do you desire better than where you are now? Are you prepared to change?
Are
you prepared to do things the bible way rather than the way everyone is doing
it? Are you prepared to make adjustments to certain things in your life?
For example
the friends you keep, are their lives motivated by the word of God hence they should uplift
you not drain you?
Concerning your secular job or your business, are you prepared to learn a new skill that will help you and place you above your colleagues or competitors?
For some of us, this might mean learning interview techniques, for some it might be reading articles from succesful enterpreneurs in your field of business so you know how to do business differently in the 21st century
Are you ready to learn from others who are
getting the result you desire?
This is what change is all about.
Holding on
to a specific way of doing things when it clearly is not productive is a recipe
for constant frustration.
Ask successful
people and they will tell you they had to change at one point or the other.
They changed the way they think, they changed traditions they were used to that
made them average.
Some of them changed friends, they sacrificed leisure time
to learn a new skill, some changed their lavish lifestyles and avoided debts and
all these didn’t come easy.
Nobody said
it will be easy but it will be worth it in the end.
However as
with everything in life, it is a matter of choice. Some will read this, think
about it and commit to change and start right away whilst others will read this
and procrastinate.
All I know
is this, for anyone who pursues change, by the time the fruits of change start
manifesting, it always exceed the pains of change.
Make the right choice today.
