Great Peace can be yours

Great peace have they which love your law and nothing shall offend them. Psalms 119:165

‘Nothing shall offend them’, what does this mean? This is not literally talking about picking offence when someone steps on your toes rather it is referring to your attitude when the storms of life hit.

It is saying you will not break down, give up, scoff at the validity of the gospel or conclude God has forgotten you.

Jesus said this same word when John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah or they should look for another. Though John knew Jesus was the Messiah but as at that time, he was locked up in prison and the pressures of life was getting at him, hence he must have thought 'Why couldn't Jesus come deliver him if truly he was the Messiah?

And so they came to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah,  he responded by performing miracles and did everything that was prophesied about him in the scriptures, he then told them to go tell John what they saw him do. In other words, he was saying, I am the Christ, I changeth not, my word is true, whatever I have told you is forever settled, even though you are passing through storms, it does not mean I am no longer with you.

He then said in Matthew 11:6, blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me meaning you are blessed if you hold on to what I have told you and not complain or give up on me.

The Psalmist said ‘great peace belongs to those who love the word of God’. Not just peace, but great peace.
To enjoy peace always does not mean there won’t be storms. When the disciples of Jesus experienced storm in Mark 4:39, Jesus, the prince of peace himself was right there in the boat with them.

We are told in the verse above, if you love the words of God, not only will you have great peace but nothing will offend you. What does this mean?

You will not be moved by circumstances, yes they will come but because you have made the word of God your shield and you know what the word has promised you, you can go to sleep and not worry how it will be fixed. That’s why Jesus was able to sleep through a storm!

You will not be offended when things do not go as planned, you will not think God doesn’t love you because you failed an examination and others passed, you will not break down and give up after some attempts at doing something you desperately want to get done and you will not compare yourself with your colleagues at work who seem to be getting all the promotion, you won’t envy other people’s land and gold and cry that God has forgotten you. You will have peace of mind in the midst of all the challenges going on.

I will like to point out here that this is not something you can do on your own, if you try it in the flesh, it won’t take long till you pack it in. To be able to enjoy peace in the face of scary and contrary situation, you must be standing on the word; there must be a word you are holding on to and you must be fully persuaded on that word or else it is only a matter of time before you cave into the pressures of this life and you will be discouraged.

Go into God's word, read and fall in love with it, make it your daily companion, let God speak to you through it and when storms hit you will not be moved.
