Try again?

Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. Judges 16:22

When Samson's mother conceived him, the angel of God appeared to her and told her no razor must touch his head for he shall deliver Israel from the hands of their enemies, the philistines in Judges 13.

There was a plan for Samson's life before he was born and of course he grew up to be a mighty warrior and he destroyed the Philistines. They hated him and plotted for him and Samson fell into their trap.

Falling into the enemy's plan or failing at something is not proof of how your future will be except you give up.

In our verse above, though Samson's eyes had been plucked out and he was chained down by the enemy, his hair began to grow again. The significance of this is that power was made available again to Samson. God helped him again as he was able to accomplish much more than he did before the enemy captured him. The enemies he killed in captivity were more than those he killed when he was free.

You can not give up on your dream because you have tried severally. You can not allow fear of failure stop you from moving forward and trying again for if you do, you might never taste the success you dreamed about.

Samson enjoyed success for a while but the enemy got him. However he could have resigned himself to fate and accept defeat but he refused failure. He knew those who refused to try again will only have memories of failure but for him failure was not an option so he decided to ask God one more time for help.

There is no failure in your makeup. You can do it if you go for it. You can achieve your dreams. Don't let the dream die.

Jesus asked Peter to cast his net into the river, the same river where he had laboured all night. Luke 5:5
Peter would never have known success if he had given up.

Only those who try again will tell a different story of success.
Your success story is a trial away. Depend on the Lord for the grace to try again.

Your dream shall surely come to pass.

Great Peace can be yours

Great peace have they which love your law and nothing shall offend them. Psalms 119:165

‘Nothing shall offend them’, what does this mean? This is not literally talking about picking offence when someone steps on your toes rather it is referring to your attitude when the storms of life hit.

It is saying you will not break down, give up, scoff at the validity of the gospel or conclude God has forgotten you.

Jesus said this same word when John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah or they should look for another. Though John knew Jesus was the Messiah but as at that time, he was locked up in prison and the pressures of life was getting at him, hence he must have thought 'Why couldn't Jesus come deliver him if truly he was the Messiah?

And so they came to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah,  he responded by performing miracles and did everything that was prophesied about him in the scriptures, he then told them to go tell John what they saw him do. In other words, he was saying, I am the Christ, I changeth not, my word is true, whatever I have told you is forever settled, even though you are passing through storms, it does not mean I am no longer with you.

He then said in Matthew 11:6, blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me meaning you are blessed if you hold on to what I have told you and not complain or give up on me.

The Psalmist said ‘great peace belongs to those who love the word of God’. Not just peace, but great peace.
To enjoy peace always does not mean there won’t be storms. When the disciples of Jesus experienced storm in Mark 4:39, Jesus, the prince of peace himself was right there in the boat with them.

We are told in the verse above, if you love the words of God, not only will you have great peace but nothing will offend you. What does this mean?

You will not be moved by circumstances, yes they will come but because you have made the word of God your shield and you know what the word has promised you, you can go to sleep and not worry how it will be fixed. That’s why Jesus was able to sleep through a storm!

You will not be offended when things do not go as planned, you will not think God doesn’t love you because you failed an examination and others passed, you will not break down and give up after some attempts at doing something you desperately want to get done and you will not compare yourself with your colleagues at work who seem to be getting all the promotion, you won’t envy other people’s land and gold and cry that God has forgotten you. You will have peace of mind in the midst of all the challenges going on.

I will like to point out here that this is not something you can do on your own, if you try it in the flesh, it won’t take long till you pack it in. To be able to enjoy peace in the face of scary and contrary situation, you must be standing on the word; there must be a word you are holding on to and you must be fully persuaded on that word or else it is only a matter of time before you cave into the pressures of this life and you will be discouraged.

Go into God's word, read and fall in love with it, make it your daily companion, let God speak to you through it and when storms hit you will not be moved.

Have you forgotten?

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalms 34:1

No born again child of God has the right to complain or moan. I say this because God is good to you.

Well what about the problems in my life, you may ask? God seems to have forgotten me. My prayers are not answered. I feel all alone with no help.

David wrote that verse of the bible I quoted. He said as for him, he will bless God at all times. This is coming from a man who helped Israel kill their enemy Goliath at a time none of them could face Goliath including King Saul, yet the reward he got was an attempt on his life by King Saul.

His own biological son disgraced him openly before all Israel by sleeping with his wives. The same son tried to take his Kingdom from him while he was still alive. I could go on and on yet with all his problems, he said at all times (good or bad) he will bless the Lord.

How was he able to do this?  Wasn't he human, you might ask?

David never forgot God's goodness in the past  to him. He esteemed God's goodness above his present challenges. When he was about to kill Goliath,  he said to King Saul in 1Sam 17:37, the same God who delivered me out of the paws of the lion and bear will deliver me out of the hand of Goliath the philistine. You see, David remembered what God had done in the past!

Study the scriptures and you will find out that the main problem of the children of Israel was because they forgot easily what God did in the past hence it was easy for them to moan, gripe and complain.

For example they quickly forgot the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea which had never happened in the history of man, they saw water standing on heaps, the same sea that became a dry ground for them to walk on drowned their enemies, yet immediately after that they complained and murmured about no water to drink!

It's amazing how quickly humans forget!

You may read this story in the bible and think 'Oh how can these people forget so easily and not trust that the same God can provide water for them to drink, but think about yourself, how are you doing now with complaining secretly about that delayed answer from God?

How soon have you forgotten what God did in the past for you? That testimony you gave that caused you to rejoice, do you remember it now in your present challenges? because don't forget the children of Israel also sang and rejoiced after God destroyed the Egyptians and delivered them but soon after they forgot it.

Anyone who will not retain always in their mind what God did will complain, the crafty devil will give you reasons to hang your head and he will keep feeding you with reasons why you should not be glad and yes many believers listen to him.

His plan is to make you forget God's goodness to you and magnify your problem. He does this by reminding you of the not good things happening right now in your life and as you keep listening to him and focusing on the problems, you can't bless the Lord at all times.

This is the deal; whatever is happening to you right now that is not favourable is a ‘light affliction’. I am not trying to play down whatever it is you are going through but that is what Apostle Paul called it in 2Cor 4:17 (For our light and momentary troubles (light affliction,KJV) are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all) In other words, your testimony after this problems will far outweigh the problems.

Apostle Paul made up his mind to esteem the good things God has done for him over the bad things going on in his life.

It really is a choice what you esteem in your life and who you listen to. Each time you listen to the devil reminding you all the bad things going on in your life, what you don’t have and you want to have, then you become sad and think God has forgotten you but when you make up your mind to esteem what God has done for you in the past and what he is doing now even though you might not see it your heart fills with joy and you become thankful.

When you begin to count your blessings, name them one by one then you will be able to put things in the right perspective. Think how you can feed yourself with no tubes going down you, think how you go to bed everyday and you woke up fine not ending in hospital , think how you and your children are not begging before eating, think how many people even want to be in your position in life. Think of blessings God has brought your way, think of safety in the Lord, think of his mercy towards you despite your shortcomings.

Look around you and you will be thankful.

It’s really what you place value on in life. Make your mind up from today to never forget God's goodness to you. Remember it daily soon your worry, pain, sadness will fly away.

God is good to you.

How to study the Word Part 3

In Part 2 of this series, I talked about meditating on the word of God and I laid emphasis on the fact that focusing on the word and thinking about it always is key and extremely productive.

Since I have discussed why you need to study the word and how to, finally I want to talk about what is so special about the word, what makes the word different from every other thing and why the result of studying the word exceed any other thing.

The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life. John 6:63b

The sower soweth the word Mark 4:14

Jesus spoke these verses!

Do you know the seed of corn in a farmer's hand is useless and just dry seed until he sows it into the ground then it can germinate?

The word of God is a seed and it is full of life, but until you sow it into your heart by reading and meditating, it is of no use to you. It will just be a book sitting on your coffee table, but the day you begin to consistently study, you are planting it into your heart and as Jesus said in Mark 4:26-29, a farmer plants a seed and he goes to sleep, rise night and day and does not know how the seed grows but once harvest time comes, he just comes to harvest so also is the word of God.

By sowing into your heart, you don't know how it will solve your problems or bring a change to your situation, but just trust it and keep studying and meditating, when it is time, your harvest will come.

It is only a matter of time, just like the seed of corn it will first bring forth the blade, then the ear and then the full corn, then the farmer can go harvest.

For you too, it is only a matter of time, gradually your change will come and your harvest will be evident for all to see. People might not see your days of sowing the word of God into your heart but they will all see and celebrate your change with you in Jesus name.

God bless you.

How to study the word Part 2

In Part 1 of this series, I talked about studying the scriptures firstly to find out who you are in Christ. This is very important.

When you are armed with the knowledge of who you are in Christ, it will help you fight against discouragement and every evil fiery darts that the enemy will throw at you. As you do this you then need to keep meditating on the word of God.

Hence today I want to talk to you about meditating on the word of God.

This is very simple yet most believers don’t understand it or think it is not necessary, yet David said in Psalms 119:97 (NET) Oh! How I love your law, all DAY LONG I MEDITATE ON IT.

What does it mean to meditate?

It is simply to focus on something and keep thinking about that thing so much so it has an effect on you.

Now listen to this, everyone meditates, either deliberately or not! When you worry, you are meditating, you are thinking about a bad, fearful or not too good situation in your life. You focus on that situation and you think about it so much, at times you can’t sleep at night. Sometimes it might even lead to illness such as depression.

That is meditating, albeit a negative one.

Listen to what Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:2 (ESV), ‘Do not be shaped by this world, instead be changed within by a new way of thinking (meditating – my own words). Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you, you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.

For many people who are adults, worry is a lifestyle. For years you have had to worry about everything but now as believers, we are being advised in the verse above to embrace a new way of thinking. How?

The same way you think and worry about an issue, now take the word of God, read it, focus on it and think about it all day long.

For example, Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)says ‘my child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart for they bring life to those who find them and healing to their whole body.

Take this verse of the bible and think about it all day, the Lord is saying to you, by putting his word in your heart and keeping it there, his word will bring healing to your whole body. Alleluia !

The more you think about this verse of the bible, the less you think about the doctors’ scary report. You think about it and speak it to your situation.

Another example, Exodus 23:25, ‘And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water and I will take away sickness from the midst of thee’

Take this verse of the bible and think about it all the time and when you hear everyone is falling ill because there is flu all over the place or some bug going round, you can say boldly to yourself, this won’t come near me and my household because of what the word says.

Another example, Exodus 23:23 ‘There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land; the number of thy days I will fulfil.

Take this scripture and focus on it and think about it all the time and you won’t be able to entertain the fear of miscarriage or untimely death. When the thought wants to come to you because you can't stop thoughts coming (though you can refuse it making residence in your mind), you remember this scripture because you have been thinking about it and faith rises within you and fear flees.

I will give one more example and allow you begin to study the scriptures and meditate on it.

Psalms 27:1. ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid’

Read this, focus on it, think about it and put it in your heart and don’t let it depart from your eyes. Whatever it is causing fear in your heart becomes nothing compared to your God. It says the Lord is the strength of my life so whom shall I be afraid of? (Nobody/Nothing)

Friends’, meditating on the word of God is powerful, with time if you are consistent, you will notice a new you, a bolder you, a champion of God who is fearless and as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1b – the righteous are bold as a lion)

This is the will of God for you.

How to study the Word Part 1

'And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? Mark 4:13

Jesus had just finished telling the parable of the sower and his disciples came to him for interpretation and he replied with the verse above.
Jesus was saying 'if you don't understand this parable of the sower, how can you understand any other parable meaning this parable is extremely important and the foundation for all parables and so it is paramount you understand it.

What is so special about this parable of the sower?

This parable is talking about the WORD

Hence I am writing this series for every one who sincerely desire how to study and meditate on the word of God so they can enjoy the tremendous benefit in the word of God.

People struggle to study and meditate, some sincerely want to but say they find it boring or hard to understand, so they give up. Some depend only on what they hear on Sundays at church and nothing else.
Some will read devotionals only without personal study of the word. If you are doing any of this, you are missing out, you are short changing yourself. The bible is a treasure chest waiting to be explored for the untold riches hidden inside it.

So how do I study?

First, you need to find out who you are in Christ. I recommend starting with the epistles Apostle Paul wrote. He talked a lot about who believers in Christ are. Underline them in your bible once you come across any and read it to yourself and say this is who you are.

A son can live as a servant all his lifetime if he is not aware of who he is but once he founds out he is a son, he begins to enjoy the privileges of a son and exercise the authority given to him.
He will look at all that rightfully belongs to him and will wish he had known sooner.

A believer is a son (John 1:12) but of course if the believer does not really know he is a son then he can live all his lifetime as a servant, barely surviving and managing to get by in life, often sad, weighed down with worry and cares of this life.

A servant serves while a son is served.

Ephesians 2:6 says after you have been raised up (i.e after your salvation) you are now seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.

This is who you are!

But you see believers don't know or believe this. They look at their physical condition now and consent with that and base their life on that. No matter where you are now, there is a better and bigger you. The word of God says this about you, but do you know this?

I have given you one bible verse of who you are, now start studying and writing out who you are in Christ.

Loving His Word

If I had not loved your teachings, I would have died from my sufferings. Psalms 119:92 (ESV)

It is easy to look at the prosperity and achievements of David and forget that he went through a lot during his lifetime. You can get carried away with his success stories in the bible and forget he had many sorrows.

The verse above reminds us that he didn't have it all good all the time. He passed through many hard times, however he told us how he survived the hard times.

David said 'he loved the teachings of God'.

That is soothing most especially because he said he would have died from his sufferings were it not for the fact that he loved God's teaching i.e God's word.

Friends, hard times will come. .........

Your faith as a child of God will be tested. Jesus already told us about this in John 16:33 so when hard times come, how will I survive it?

Loving the word of God.

David already gave us the secret above. It's always good wisdom to learn from other people who have gone through what you are going through and how they made it.

But how do you love someone or something you are not acquainted with?
How do you love someone you don't spend time with?

How can I love the word of God?

Oh! How I love your law, all day long I meditate on it. Psalms 119:97 (NET)

David tells us how in verse 97. He says he meditate always.

David certainly was a busy person, he was a king, a warrior, he was in charge of a whole nation, he had to go fight battles yet he created time for the word of God always. He knew that's where the success and prosperity comes from. Everything else can wait, first the word.

Today sadly, the reverse is the case. Believers are too busy, no quality time for the word. Career, family, entertainment etc comes first before the word.

You have to create time, read it and meditate on it consistently. By spending time with it you fall in love with it. The word of God is not an ordinary book, it was written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter1:21.

As you do this, you are actually spending time with the Lord Himself, His Spirit will breathe upon the words you are reading and they will guide you, tell you what to do, reveal secrets to you and show you how to overcome the hard times.

Falling in love with someone or something requires patience and persistence.  You don't stop studying even after a problem is solved or not solved, you make it a lifestyle because as we overcome a battle, the next hurdle is round the corner for the believer is engaged in a battle either you believe it or not.

Don't forget 1 Peter 5:8,  for your adversary the devil as a roaring lion goeth about seeking who he may devour.

I pray from today you make studying and meditating on the word of God a lifestyle.

My life is my thoughts

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he Proverbs 23:7a

The bible is saying you are what you think!

This is a powerful truth that most people have never sat down to consider.

It's very easy to sit down and blame our family background, who we married, our country of residence, our employers, our government etc for what is happening to us and where we are but the bible says you are what you think. Isn't that shocking?

Our mind is a battlefield and very powerful. What you think about always will come your way.

Job says in Job 3:25, 'for the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

What do you think about and what do you not think about?

Some people think and plan their lives based on the news on television, the films they watch, what people are saying, what their friends do, past family history, past failures and just general human beliefs.

As a child of God, let's see what the Lord expect you to think about. Philippians 4:8 says 'Finally brethren, whatsoever things are TRUE, whatsoever things are HONEST, whatsoever things are JUST, whatsoever things are PURE, whatsoever things are LOVELY, whatsoever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Whatever you want to dwell on and think about everyday must satisfy all the criteria listed out above in Philippians 4:8, this is bible standard, if it does not, then you have no business thinking about it, it does damage to you gradually.

For example, a doctors report you have received, does it satisfy the criteria above? yes it might be true according to the scan they have carried out, but is it pure? is it lovely? is it a good report? once you start answering no, then discard it. What do I do then, you might ask?

Think about one thing that satisfies all the criteria above and that one thing is the WORD OF GOD. The word says by his stripes you were healed (Isaiah 53:5), so that nullifies the doctors report, you keep thinking about the word and prayerfully speak it to your condition and walk in this truth.

The devil reminds you what happened to some or every member of your family which might not be good and as you listen to the devil, you begin to fear such will happen to you, does it satisfy the criteria in Phil 4:8, if not, discard it and find a scripture on it and hold on it. Keep thinking about that scripture and use it to nullify your family history and it won't happen to you.

Is it a financial crisis and it is staring at you in the face and the devil brings fear to your heart and you can't sleep as you think about it all the time, what does the bible say about your finances and provision, find a scripture and think about this scripture always and prayerfully walk in this truth.

Whatever it is, only the word of God is true, lovely, pure, honest, just and of a good report. Constant reading and thinking of the word of God is the antidote to depression, anxiety, fear, sleeplessness and all the evils in this world.

Think about the word, it will propel your life towards God's plan for your life which is good and perfect. Think about problems, past failures, fearful family histories, scary doctors' report etc and you become an easy target for the devil. You then conclude that this world is hard, unfair to you and scary. That should be the unbeliever's testimony not yours.

I pray today that as you begin to renew your mind with the word of God as Apostle Paul advised in Romans 12:2, you will reap the fruits of the word which is peace, righteousness and joy in the Holy Ghost in Jesus name.

Yes you can cry out!

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, 'he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. John 8:7

At times there are issues you might be going through due to no fault of yours or even maybe it was your fault but it was a genuine mistake and you are sorry about it. However, so people don't hear and 'judge' you, you keep quiet about it and continue suffering in silence, meanwhile your heart is crying out for help.

You sincerely wish there was someone you could pour your heart out to who will not judge you, listen to you and probably help you but you find it's extremely hard to find who to trust.

Everyone you see looks happy and dandy on the outside so you think to yourself 'will they understand what you are passing through?'

Truth is everyone will need help at one point or the other.

In our verse above, they brought the woman to Jesus who according to them was caught in the act of adultery,  their law was to stone her but they wanted to tempt Jesus so they asked him what he thought. Don't forget it takes two to commit adultery but these people chose who to accuse.

This tells you we live in a fallen world of imperfect humans. What criteria did they use to choose who should be stoned out of the two people who committed the same offence?

Jesus told her accusers they can only stone her if they were without sins themselves, of course that shut them up and they all scurried off.

All the while, the woman was quiet, probably waiting to be condemned by Jesus, a sinless man but the Master asked her where her accusers were and if anyone had condemned her then she spoke out and replied 'no one'. He then told her neither has he condemned her and she should go and sin no more.

My point here is that there might be things you did that you are sorry about and you wish you could turn back the hands of time and people have said to you 'well you have to bear the consequences of your actions' and you are asking 'for how long'?

Your heart is crying for help, you don't know what to do, why not cry out to the Lord for help. He won't turn you away neither will he judge you.

He said he didn't come for the righteous but to call sinners to repentance (Luke 5:32) each time they hounded him for dining with 'sinners'

Jesus isn't encouraging sin but like a caring Father, he wouldn't reject even a prodigal son.
Rather than carry your burdens alone and bottle things in, tell it to Jesus who will bring peace to your heart about the issue and even guide you on what to do.

A gentle reminder

I have pulled out few scriptures for you just for those times doubts want to creep in especially when you have been waiting for a while and trusting God on an issue.
These bible verses are to remind you that God is still for you and on your side. You need to remind yourself about God's word as that is the way to beat doubt.

1.He gave up Jesus (the only begotten son he has) for you, there is nothing you need now that will be too much for him to give you.
Read Romans 8:32(NLT)
Since he did not spare even his own son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?

2. Jesus is speaking here to you, remember he once lived here on the earth and he went through troubles too. So he is saying to you.........
Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God believe also in me.

3. You can remind Jesus about this bible verse when praying. Remind him exactly what he said, he said 'anything'
If ye ask anything in my name, I will do it

4. Everything you need has been provided for, spiritual blessings includes everything as spiritual gives birth to physical.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

5. All the fullness of God is in Jesus and you are in Jesus,  are you aware of this? Do you know, as a joint heir with Christ, everything he has belongs to you?
Colossians 2:9-10a
For in him (Christ) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily and you are complete in him.

6. This is for those who are always worried something evil will happen to them or their loved ones, if you are saved and washed with the blood of Jesus, He won't allow evil come near you or your loved ones. He will keep you from evil.
2Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful who shall stablish you and keep you from evil.

7. Finally, remember God cannot deny himself, he can't deny what he has said already in his word so even if we still refuse to believe, God is still true.
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful, he cannot deny himself.

Wait for it

God, how long do I have to cry out for help before you listen? Habakkuk 1:1a (The Message Bible)

Is this your heart cry? Have you cried all night long and it seems no answer is forth coming?
Is discouragement beginning to set in?

Prophet Habakkuk wrote the bible passage above, he was a man of God but he had reached that stage where it felt like God was not coming through for him so he said to the Lord,  'for how long?

Even the Psalmist said in Psalm 61:1 'Hear my cry, O God;  attend to my prayer, so whatever it is you are passing through now is not peculiar to you.

Martha said to Jesus 'Lord if you had been here my brother would not have died in John 11:21.
In other words, Lord you didn't answer my prayer or responded to my request to come heal my brother for if you had he wouldn't have died.

Have you ever felt that way and now you don't understand anymore or don't know what to do or feel like packing it all up?

Here is the good news: Jesus told Martha in verse 23, your brother will rise again and yes, her brother rose.

Prophet Habakkuk later got a message from God in Habakkuk 2:3, though the vision (promise) might tarry (delay), WAIT FOR IT because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

God hasn't forgotten what he said to you, he keeps promises and even though it might delay it will surely come to pass.

Please wait for it.

The harvest

Then Jesus said, the kingdom of God is like someone who plants seed in the ground. Night and Day whether the person is asleep or awake the seed still grows but the person does not know how it grows. By itself the earth produces grain. First the plant grows then the head and then all the grain in the head. When the grain is ready the farmer cuts it because this is the HARVEST TIME.  Mark 4:26-29 (NCV)

This is the meaning of the parable, the seed is God's word. Luke 8:11 (NLT)

In the first scripture quoted above, Jesus  told a parable to illustrate his message about the word of God.

He said a farmer plants a seed into the earth and then he goes about his business. If the farmer knows what's good for him, he wouldn't go and uproot what he planted say after a day or two or a week or a month to check if the seed is growing.

He leaves the seed in the ground, the best he can do after planting the seed is water it.

Jesus said in verse 27, night and day the seed GROWS,  either the farmer knows it or not, something is happening under the earth, he can't see it but the seed is growing!

Friends, the word of God is a seed! You need to plant it in your heart. Your heart is the earth. If you don't plant the seed of the word of God by studying the scriptures, there is nothing that will grow and when the day of persecution and trials come, it is only the word you have planted that will rise up within you to counter the attacks of trials.

Jesus went further to say the seed grows but the farmer doesn't know how.
People say 'well I don't see any changes, I am studying the bible consistently but there is no change in my situation, nothing is happening.
That contradicts what Jesus said. Jesus said something is happening,  the seed is growing, the word in you is growing, you might not feel or see any changes.

It isn't the day a farmer plants corn that he begins to see growth, it takes a while and the farmer that plants palm tree might wait years before seeing any growth.

In verse 28, Jesus then revealed a deeper truth. He said it is the earth that will produce the grain not the farmer!
You know what that means? I'll explain.

When the farmer is planting that one seed, he is trusting the earth to multiply that seed into several seeds. Multiplying the seed is beyond the ability of the farmer so he  trusts the earth to do it.

You are not the one that will cause the word to work for you, that's God's business but you have to plant the word in your heart by studying, remember Apostle Paul said in 1Corinthians 3:6 that he planted, Apollos watered but GOD gave the increase.

Now read verse 28 further down and see how Jesus explained the growth process. First the blade, then the ear then the full corn (KJV).
This tells you that the word of God you sow into your heart grows in stages, you don't study for a week or month or a year and if you haven't seen changes you stop studying. No!. David says he hides the word of God in his heart.
You don't know how it will grow but it will, your job is to keep studying

Verse 29, Jesus said when the grain is ready, the farmer then goes to reap because it is HARVEST time. Alleluia!!

Jesus said 'when' not if meaning your harvest time will come and like the farmer you can now go forth and reap it. If you  give up midway into the sowing process, how will you see harvest?

Harvest time is guaranteed if you sow. It's a law of God and it cannot be broken. God honours his word.

Keep sowing daily, hide God's word in your heart, don't be discouraged to stop. Set aside time for study always. Your harvest is on its way.

Are you a stickler for the word?

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful word is as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God's word. We can't get away from it no matter what. Hebrews 4:12 (The Message)

Have you ever felt like your prayers were not heard by God? Have you ever wondered if God truly means what he says in the Holy Scriptures? Have you prayed and fasted and it seems as if nothing is happening?
Are you frustrated and you have given up or about to give up trusting the Lord? If you have, then please read on.

Each time people came to Jesus, they came because he had what they needed or wanted. Both the rich and poor came to him, this tells us everyone has a need.
He met their needs and never turned them away.

The needs of the people differs, some wanted to be healed, some wanted their dead raised, some were hungry and some needed deeper revelation of the word

In all of these cases when he met the needs of people, what did Jesus do?

When blind Bartimaeus cried for help to the Lord in Mark 10:46-52, after Jesus had asked him what he wanted and he told Jesus he wanted to receive his sight. Jesus then spoke! 'Go thy way, your faith has made you whole'

When Lazarus's sister sobbed and  reminded Jesus about not coming early to heal her brother who was now dead in John 11:38-44, Jesus spoke and commanded the dead to come forth and he came forth.

When he was going to feed the five thousand with five loaves and two fishes  in Matthew 14:13-21, he gave thanks (he spoke)and blessed what they had and it became a miracle.

When the disciples needed deeper revelation, he spoke the word and taught them.

My point is the word works! If you speak the word (remember Jesus always speaks) consistently to your circumstances and don't give up, your circumstances will bow to the word of God. Why? It is God's word. Use the word of God and not your word against your challenges.

Also remember the secret is the consistency. Be a stickler for the word. Stick with it. For those who will stick with it, before long they will sing a new song.

The power is in the consistency!
