In everything?

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Years ago, when I first read this verse, I wondered if the Lord truly meant I should give thanks in 'everything'.

This is because then I would quickly cast my mind back to those challenging periods of my life and wondered how truly I could possibly give thanks in those situations.

However by His Grace as I grew in the Lord and began to renew my mind with the word of God, my mind began to see things from the Lord's perspective.

In that same chapter of 1 Thessalonians 5, verse 24 says 'Faithful is He that calleth you who also will do it.

If He asks me to give thanks in everything, then this is because no matter how 'bad' the situation might be, He (God) is faithful and He will do it.

I need only to obey this verse and thank Him in everything. I mustn't be selective in what i thank Him for!
Everything means everything.

It is only in the world of human beings that things are unstable, difficult and unpredictable  but as for our God it is not so.

He is a faithful God
He is reliable
He is dependable
He is able
He is true
He is love
He is holy meaning He cannot lie
He is constant meaning He does not change.

So as I began to see my life as God sees it through meditating on scriptures, I realise that truly I can give thanks in everything!

I can give thanks when I have money in my account.
I also can give thanks when I don't because when I need money to pay my bills or for some other purposes He will abundantly provide for His storeroom never runs out.

I can give thanks when my body feels well
I also can give thanks when my body doesn't feel well because He is the Lord that healeth me and my body will be healed by His word.

I can give thanks when everything around me is rosy and good
I also can give thanks when things around me doesn't look too good because He says He will never leave me nor forsake me; He is watching over me and so things must turn around for my good.

I can give thanks when I receive good news
I can also give thanks when I have just been given a bad report because I know the report of the Lord supercedes every other report and His report is a good one.

I could go on and on, what I am trying to say is this:

Yes in everything I can give thanks!

Giving of thanks is not dependent on the outcome of a matter.
Giving of thanks is THE WILL OF GOD FOR EVERY BELIEVER. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Will you begin to give thanks in everything from today? This is the will of God concerning you.

You are blessed.

So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. Galatians 3:9 (NLT)

By the grace of God, today's message is for you, child of God, you who struggle to believe that you are blessed, perhaps because you look at your finances and it is nothing to write home about.

You whose business/career is stagnant and you are experiencing no growth.

You whose earthly family's history has been that of struggles in almost everything and because of this generational history, you conclude your story will remain the same.

You want to believe that you are blessed but the physical evidences in your life says otherwise.

I say to you today regardless of what you see physically, if you have placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the scriptures says 'you are blessed'.

Yes you are!

For you share the same blessing Abraham received.
Study Genesis 17 and see the blessings God pronounced upon Abraham so you know what belongs to you.
Abraham was given everything by God, no limit was placed on his blessings.

How do I move from where I am now to these blessings you are talking about? You may ask.

The word!

How do you mean, you may ask?

I'll explain...

Simon Peter didn't catch any fish though he had laboured ALL NIGHT.
The fishes (blessing) were all there, but Peter wasn't catching them. Why?

The blessing of God is not dependent on your strength, your talent, your abilities or your family connections.
Your blessing is in the WORD and in DOING  what it says.

Let's read Luke 5:5-6

And Simon answering said unto him (Jesus), Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy WORD I will let down the net.
AND WHEN THEY HAD THIS DONE, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes and their net brake.

WHEN THEY DID WHAT JESUS SAID, their story changed within minutes!!! From labouring all night and catching nothing  to net braking fishes. That's what I'm talking about!

No anointing service took place, no hands were laid on them, no long prayers were made, they simply did what Jesus asked them to do.....

Jesus said 'Let down your net' then Peter simply did what Jesus asked him to do though his human sense almost got in the way but he obeyed.

Listen to Peter.........

He said 'nevertheless AT THY WORD'

The fishes (blessings) were there all along, they only responded when the word was spoken.
Peter couldn't catch any fish (blessing) because even though he was an experienced fisherman and he tried to do it the way he was trained to do, nothing happened.

The blessings that brake nets only happens because of the WORD.

Am I saying your talents, abilities or hardwork are not useful? Of course not. If you don't work you should not eat so says the bible.
What I am saying is this: It is the blessing of God on what you do that makes you flourish and prosper than your peers.

A man may work and labour hard with nothing to show for it but if that man can have understanding of the blessing of God through the word of God concerning him, he will cease from struggles.

These blessings are activated by studying and doing the word

James 1:25 (NLT)
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard then God WILL BLESS YOU for doing it.

One more.....
Joshua 1:8 (NLT)
Study this book of Instruction continually (the word). Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you PROSPER AND SUCCEED in all you do.

A lot of believers don't have time for the word but those who know this secret practises it and it works for them.

You should not look at your present situation and say 'but i don't feel blessed, it has nothing to do with feelings.
You can't listen to people's opinion about you and conclude you ain't blessed.

You can't look around at your circumstances and say 'I really do not look blessed'. No!
You should align your thoughts, words and actions with the word of God.

That's what Abraham did.

After God appeared to him and pronounced him blessed, he didn't feel blessed, he didn't become father of nations immediately, there was no physical evidence to back up what God said but look at what he did in Romans 4:19-20

And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb. he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

God has spoken concerning you and He doesn't change his mind.
He pronounced Abraham blessed and Abraham just held to that word, believed it even when all he could see was 'contrary' but he refused to waiver and he got what was promised in the end.

You are blessed in your body, the works of your hands are blessed, your seeds are blessed, your business is blessed, everything that concerns you is blessed and no one can reverse that blessing because you are united with Christ.

Start digging into the word today, agree with what it says, speak it, run with it, refuse any thing short of God's total blessings for your life, don't give in to fear or unbelief, be a doer of the word and it's only a matter of time, you too shall be called a blessing.

What will people say?

The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that. Proverbs 29:25 (MSG)

Look at the title and pause for a minute, has this statement ever crossed your mind, if yes then please read on.

I am going to be talking today in the line of your thoughts when it goes 'What will people say?, I wonder what they think of me, I want to try but people might think it's not good enough or acceptable etc.

In short, I will speak on these little foxes that eat away at your confidence and don't allow you follow your dreams and achieve your God given potentials all because of the 'fear of men'.

They are very subtle voices in your mind yet they are powerful negative tools in the hands of the enemy to stop you.

A lot of people value the opinion of men so much so it is limiting what they are capable of doing. All of us have great potentials. God did not create any junk.
However, human opinion can be profitable if properly evaluated before placing reliance on it.

Why would you allow what people think or will think of you stop you from going after your dreams?

A lot of the times people give an opinion on what you want to do, it is mainly in their own interest not yours most especially close friends and relatives. They know you very well, your weaknesses, your family background etc and once you roll out your big dream in their ears, you become a threat as you indirectly expose their own failures.

People look after themselves first, human being are generally selfish, only those who are renewing their mind with the word of God always, who love the Lord genuinely and are desiring to be like the Lord will not judge you or condemn you or talk down your dream and they are few.

Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it?

The bible says the heart of man is deceitful, not only that but desperately wicked, if you are aiming for the stars and you listen to the opinion of people who are crawling and have no intention of walking let alone fly, what do you think they will say about your dreams?

I agree there might be some people who genuinely wish you well but run their opinion with the word of God.
A lot of human opinions are biased and based on the traditions of men.
Even Jesus told the Pharisees and the elders off because of their traditions which they exalted above the commands of God in Matthew 15.

Why do your disciples transgress the traditions of the elders for they do not wash hands before eating bread? They asked Jesus.

Listen to Jesus 's response in verse 3...
Why do you also transgress the commandments of God by your traditions?

The commands of God must supercede tradition always. Don't forget that.

Men's traditions are strong and it exists also in the church by the way.
They tell you this is how we have done things even if there is no biblical justification for it and so friends,  if you are going to wait till people accept you, like you, believe in you, agree with your ideas, I pray you don't wait till eternity most especially if you are from a culture where tradition is strong.

I tell you friends, break the mould! Once you know in your spirit that you are pursuing your God given dream, let nobody stop you.

Joseph 's older brothers hated him for the dreams God gave him, why? His dreams were against the norm, against tradition.
He was the second youngest and so how dare he tell them he dreamt they were bowing down to him but that was God's plan for Joseph and it eventually came to pass.

I remember some years back I decided to embark on a project which at the time was against 'the norm'.
For me, i knew I had to do it to take a step closer to my dreams, almost everyone who knew about it was against it not because they hated me but because I was treading on unfamiliar grounds. It wasn't popular.

It was risky but today the same people who voiced their opinion strongly and was against it now agrees it was a wise decision. If I had listened to their opinion, today I will have myself to blame as every man is responsible for his actions.

Of course, I could have listened to their opinion as I got a lot of it but I decided to go with my heart and trust the Lord.
I wasn't sure it will be successful but I still tried.
The real failures in life are those who never try.

Was I afraid? Undoubtedly yes, did I have everything as at then needed to start the project, no! As a matter of fact, I had every reason under the sun not to go for it but I still went for it.

I knew I could use their strong opinions as an excuse not to start the project but I also knew embarking on the project will open unlimitless opportunities for me and so against all the voices of fear screaming in my mind, I jumped at the opportunity. Today I have no regrets.

That verse says human opinion 'disables'. KJV version says it 'ensnares'. In other words, you become like a captive!

What people think makes you become like a slave, now that is worrying but true if at any time you need to take a step in your pursuit of purpose you think 'what will people think or say?

Always weigh human opinion and trust God. He is the only righteous judge with no hidden motives.
Friends, let no human opinion stop you.

Finally, I leave you with the quote below......

If your mind can conceive a great idea, then you have the ability to perform it

There is need for Change

Recently as I went through some documents on project management principles, this caught my attention……...

‘Change is an inevitable part of any organisation, without it all organisations would cease to exist as they would stagnate and be overtaken by competition.

Even in organisations that do not operate in a competitive market there are pressures from both within and outside the organisation for improvements and efficiencies
These pressures lead to the need for change’

It really got me thinking as even though this might be referring to organisations, I do know it relates to human being as well.

Today I will like to talk about growth/change.

Deuteronomy 1:6
The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb. Saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount.

God does not like stagnancy.

God is not responsible for where you are if you are not growing in every aspect of your life and so if you desire to grow, it will not just happen automatically, you have to pursue growth.

God can prompt you through His spirit that you are not where you should be, you might have a godly dissatisfaction with the level where you are and desire change but without pursuing change and doing something about it, you won't see that change. That is a fact!

To desire is one thing, to pursue your desire is another thing.

You cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. NO! It won't happen, and this is where change comes in.

Are you prepared to change? No, then you might as well stop reading this, however if your response is yes, then please read further.

Change starts with your mindset, doing something about the way you think, the way you place limits on yourself and the way you are at ease with accepting your status.

The way you have done something for years is not producing result, time is ticking by, yet you keep doing the same thing, do you not think it's time for a change?

You are not getting the result you desire so you conclude it cannot be done yet the same thing you say cannot be done is being achieved daily by others!

Of course they are not achieving by doing nothing! They are doing what a lot of people are not ready to do.

Change will cost you something!

Change requires effort, a lot of it.

For example it takes effort as a believer to commit to studying and meditating on the word day and night everyday before you begin to see the result.

David said in Psalms 119:103, how sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea sweeter than honey to my mouth.

To know the taste of honey you have to put it in your mouth first, so also the word of God.

Change will challenge the way you do things, change requires learning something new, change will expose your weakness/inadequacies which is a good thing as then you realise where to work on.

Change might even require you to change your location which is scary for a lot of people.

Only the very determined embraces change!

Do you know we will be very concerned if a three year old continues to crawl and refuses to walk and run, how do you think God feels about where you are presently?

Are you crawling, walking, running or flying?

If you are still where you were few years ago spiritually, materially, etc, then you should be concerned.

Look at where you are now, do a self review and score yourself?
Can you honestly say your unbelieving neighbour will look at you wholistically and be challenged to serve your big God?

Are you discouraged and frustrated that things are not working and you really do not know what to do? Are you prepared to change?

In the verse above, God had to give the children of Israel a little kick in the bottom to move. Why?
He had already pronounced them blessed and given them the land but they just stayed put.

They had become used to that mountain where they dwelt even though that was not God’s best for them and since moving requires effort even though it will take them to their promised land, they were not ready to move.

It takes courage, faith, determination and effort to leave your comfort zone and do something different from what you are used to.

A lot of believers are sinking because where they are, even though they are not getting the result they desire but they look around at other believers like them and say things like this ‘well, everybody is like this or I am a bit better than some people I know so they relax, but is that God’s best for you?

Let’s read what Apostle Paul said in
2 Corintihians 10:12

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves, but they measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves among themselves are not wise.

He is saying you are not wise to compare yourself with others.
You should only measure your life with the word of God, not with others and of course the word of God will reveal a lot to you.

Even if all the people you know are average minded, you should be shooting for the sky and setting high goals.

If they are sick, you should live in perfect divine health, if they are barely surviving; you should be flourishing for that is what the word of God says about you.

You should study the word yourself and find out what it says about you.

You should know that concerning your health, the Bible says no plague shall come near your dwelling (Psalms 91:10), hence diseases should not dwell in your body and you should stand on that word and command that sickness to leave.

You should know that the bible says the works of your hand is blessed (Deuteronomy 28:12) and you will be above only and not beneath (Deuteronomy 28:13) hence you should not struggle in your finances, you should be dissatisfied with poverty.

You should know the bible says you will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth its fruit in due season (Psalms 1:3); a tree by the rivers of water do not struggle to bring forth fruit.
It produces effortlessly.
That is who you are in Christ!

Deep within you, do you desire better than where you are now? Are you prepared to change?
Are you prepared to do things the bible way rather than the way everyone is doing it? Are you prepared to make adjustments to certain things in your life?

For example the friends you keep, are their lives motivated by the word of God hence they should uplift you not drain you?

Concerning your secular job or your business, are you prepared to learn a new skill that will help you and place you above your colleagues or competitors?

For some of us, this might mean learning interview techniques, for some it might be reading articles from succesful enterpreneurs in your field of business so you know how to do business differently in the 21st century

Are you ready to learn from others who are getting the result you desire?

This is what change is all about.

Holding on to a specific way of doing things when it clearly is not productive is a recipe for constant frustration.

Ask successful people and they will tell you they had to change at one point or the other. They changed the way they think, they changed traditions they were used to that made them average.
Some of them changed friends, they sacrificed leisure time to learn a new skill, some changed their lavish lifestyles and avoided debts and all these didn’t come easy.

Nobody said it will be easy but it will be worth it in the end.

However as with everything in life, it is a matter of choice. Some will read this, think about it and commit to change and start right away whilst others will read this and procrastinate.

All I know is this, for anyone who pursues change, by the time the fruits of change start manifesting, it always exceed the pains of change.

Make the right choice today.

I shall lend to many nations

Few years ago whilst studying the word of God, I got to Deuteronomy 15:6.
I read it but had to read it over and over again.
I paused and asked the Lord if He really meant what He said in this bible passage.

I asked because when I study, I take each verse of the Scriptures as God's personal message to me.

What is in Deuteronomy 15:6?

Deuteronomy 15:6
For the Lord thy God blesseth thee as He promised thee and THOU SHALT LEND UNTO MANY NATIONS BUT THOU SHALT NOT BORROW and thou shalt reign over many nations but they shalt not reign over thee.

Well someone might say 'but God spoke this to the children of Israel thousands of years ago'
That is true but for me I know every scripture is written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16) and when I study it, it is for me today and I have been blessed.

So I said further to the Lord' Well as at now I am definitely not lending to a nation, let alone many nations so do you mean this word Lord?

I know you speak to me when I study your word so do you truly mean I will lend to many nations?

How will that be?

I looked at my present situation then as I studied the scriptures and thought 'how will that happen in my life'?

I could have just read it, jogged on and forgot about this verse of the bible but as I meditated on it, I couldn't just let go.

I knew if the Lord said it then He must mean it and as I wasn't lending to nations I needed to hear more on this from the Lord so I began to study the scriptures more.

Sometimes I hear people say some of the promises in the bible are no longer relevant for us today.
When people are not getting bible's result, it's easy to explain it away rather than dig deep into the word of God and study how the early church got the result they had.

As I studied more, I found out that God's word remains the same and it is settled meaning even if I don't yet see the physical manifestations in my life, it's not failure on the part of God. It also does not mean it will not come to pass in my life.

I then came across something really interesting and inspiring that blessed me and answered my question and I will like to share it with you.

I have applied the word of God I read to my personal life, whilst I have not started lending to many nations, I see His hand upon my life, prospering me and taking me step by step towards the fulfilment of His word.

I smell the abundance of rain and it will shower upon me and you too if you will meditate on His word and stand in faith.

I trust Him completely and believe as I follow Him by listening to His instructions through consistent study of His word, it's only a matter of time before I begin to flourish and lend to many nations.

What I came across is about the kings of Israel and Judah in the Bible.
I am still studying about them so I do not claim to know it all.

I put these kings into three main categories.

1.      Kings who do that which is evil in the sight of the Lord (majority)

2.      Kings who do that which is right in the sight of the Lord but refuses to remove the high places causing the people to burn incense on the high places (also majority)

3.      Kings who do that which is right in the sight of the Lord, removes the high places, brake all images and cut down groves (very very few)

Right from the very beginning, the children of Israel knows that when they go fight battles (as they fought a lot of battles to claim Canaan – a land flowing with milk and honey) the only reason they were able to drive out the inhabitants of the land and possess their land was because God was with them.

God told them what to do to win the battle, they only needed to obey his instructions and victory was assured always.

Winning all their battles had nothing to do with the weapons they owned, their skill or their number, as a matter of fact, Israel was a smaller nation compared to their enemies.

It all had to do with the Lord.

As long they loved the Lord with all their heart, their soul and might and turned not aside to the right or left but walked in the commandment of the Lord, they conquered and reigned.

The book of the law was faithfully read to them and they hearkened to it.

However, with time, they began to look around and wanted a king to rule over them like their neighbours.
Prophet Samuel warned them and was unhappy about their request and God told Samuel not to worry but to give them what they wanted as it is him the Lord they rejected as their King.(every man will be responsible for his actions)

And so the kings began to rule over children of Israel and as they ruled, gradually, they began to do what was right in their own eyes and made Israel to sin.

Beside David who loved and pleased the Lord and ensured the people served and obeyed the Lord and his son Solomon who started well too though his many wives took his heart away from the Lord, other kings just ignored the laws of Moses and worshipped other gods; some of them partially followed the Lord whilst others completely did evil in the sight of God.

As I studied further, I noticed that when they went their own way and did evil in the sight of God, they suffered in the hands of their enemies and the promises of God was never accomplished in their lives.

Will we then say God's word failed?  Will we say God lied? No! They were the one that did not keep the laws.

These are the same Israelites with the promises of dominion, prosperity, success in battles etc but as soon as they ditched the laws of Moses and never read them anymore and did their own thing, they became the victim instead of the victor.

However there were very few kings who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, I found out that these few kings PROSPERED EXCEEDINGLY and destroyed their enemies which was the original plan of God for them.

I have only came across 2 kings after David who completely did what was right in the eyes of God. I am still studying.....

King Josiah
2 Kings 22:2 – and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of David his father and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
2 Kings 23:25 - and like unto him was there no king before him that turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might according to the law of Moses neither after him arose there any like him’

King Hezekiah
2Kings 18:3, 5, 6,7  – and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord according to all that David his father did.
He trusted in the Lord God of Israel so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah nor any that were before him.
For he clave to the Lord and departed not from following him but kept his commandments which the Lord commanded Moses.

And the Lord was with him and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the King of Assyria and served him not

In fact, for King Josiah before he became king, for a very long time, after David and Solomon’s time, the law of Moses was no longer read to the people, it was King Josiah who found the law in the house of God and commanded it to be read out by the priests.

No wonder he prospered exceedingly!

My conclusion
As long as I study the word, meditate daily upon it, be a doer of the word and not do that which is right in my eyes even if that is what majority are doing, it's only a matter of time before I begin to lend to many nations.

What this means is before you get to the level of lending to many nations, it means you are flourishing and you have more than enough. This is what the Lord promised to do for those who will study, meditate and be a doer of the word.

Check it out yourself in the verse below-

Joshua 1:8 – This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shall make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.

Do you believe you shall lend to many nations?

I believe.

You must have a word

And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.  1Kings 17:8-9

You must have a word.

There was severe famine in the land, as there was no rain meaning one thing: hunger

However the word of the Lord came to Elijah so he could be rest assured that even though everyone might be experiencing hunger, as for him, God had made provision for him

God always provide for His own.

In the verse above, he told him I have commanded a widow to sustain you.
How will a widow sustain him in famine? that was not his business, all he knew was God had spoken....and he had God's word to hold onto.

Before the issues of life come calling as they will definitely come, you must have a word from the Lord that you are holding onto.

Jesus said in John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world

He is saying here, we will have problems as long as we are in this world, however He gave his word
'Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world
In me you will have peace

A believer who has this word will not be agitated therefore when tribulations come, he or she will have peace in the midst of the challenges he is facing with the assurance that he will come out of the challenges victoriously.

What about those times the challenges seem overwhelming?

Let's look at Elijah, How would a widow sustain him in famine?
He could have questioned it because when you hear of a widow, what readily comes to mind is a woman on her own barely surviving as the husband is deceased.

But God had spoken. 'Go to this widow she will sustain you'.

As I meditated on this, I thought 'Lord, surely you knew this widow barely had food in her house to feed herself and her son yet you sent Elijah there. Why?

I didn't want to just read this bible passage and jog along as I knew there must be something I could glean from here so I kept meditating.

Then the Lord brought to my mind 2 Kings 7:1

This was when Elisha prophesied and said 'Hear ye the word of the Lord, thus saith the Lord, tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.

There was severe famine in the land but God said by the next day food will be sold for say a penny in today's currency.
This was at a time when bird's poo (faeces) was sold for 5 pieces of silver and people were boiling their children to eat. 2 Kings 6:25-29.
The famine was grievous in Samaria.

The human brain will struggle to understand how there could be severe famine today and by tomorrow, food will become so cheap it will be sold for a penny.

God is not sitting in heaven thinking how He will solve your problem. He has the solution already.

You might say but my problem is a big one, it might be big in your eyes and look impossible but God knows what to do.

When Elisha prophesied and said by tomorrow, fine flour will be sold for a shekel in a land of severe famine, the solution was already next door.

Let's go to 2 Kings 7:6-7 - For the Lord had made the host of Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to come upon us.
Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight and left their tents and their horses and their asses even the camp as it was and fled for their life.

God had provided the food by making their neighbours, the Syrians hear a noise and run away leaving all their food and possession which the children of God through the lepers came later to find out and possessed.

I meditated on this and thought to myself 'So Lord, once you give your word over anything, no matter how hard the challenge is, it will come to pass because your word is forever settled.

Now back to our main story, then I thought to myself 'when Elijah entered the city, met the widow who God said will sustain him and asked her to bring him food (verse 12) and she said 'I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel and a little oil in a cruse and behold I am gathering two sticks that I may go in and dress it for me and my son that we may eat it and die.

What went on in Elijah's mind? Did doubt arose? Did He think God got it wrong? or did He say to himself 'I know my redeemer liveth, God cannot lie, if He said it, it will surely come to pass.
He had spoken and said this widow will sustain me, how it will happen, I don't know but it will.

Once you have the word, trust God completely.

If Elijah had turned back after seeing that the widow barely had food, he would never have witnessed that supernatural provision from God.

Believers say 'I read these things in the bible but I don't see them manifesting in my life. The truth is the word of God He sent to you is 'life' it cannot fail.
You have to go beyond the level of 'seeing before believing'
You have to trust God completely.

A widow can feed a nation if it is the Lord that has spoken it for 'Faithful is he that calleth you who also will do it. I Thessalonians 5:24

Your change will surely  come.

1Kings 17:16 - And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord whichh he spake by Elijah.

Till death do us part

Quite often, we've seen people look at a couple and say things like 'the man is very wicked but the wife is an angel or that woman is horrible, I wonder how the husband cope at home as he is such a good man.
I'm sure you've heard such statements before.

Is anything wrong with marriage? After all God instituted marriage and everything God made is good. (Genesis 1)

Today I want to talk about bliss in marriage. I want to talk about marriage 'done' the bible way.

I am not a marriage counsellor and definitely not here to list the DO's and DON'Ts of marriage as I don't know them if they exist.
I just want to share with you some truths in the Word of God that has blessed me in this area.

I am not by this message telling people what to do, however if you desire more in your marriage, if deep within you, you know things should be better than how they presently are and you just know that as a child of God, complete peace and love can reign in your marriage then you can read on and share with your spouse.
I have also been blessed by it and I pray it ministers to you too.

Proverbs 5:18 (GNB ) says so be happy with your wife and find your joy with the woman you married.

I have only been married 14 years and so you might say I am not experienced which is good in my opinion as people often tend to advice you on marital issues from their own personal experience which might or might not be palatable, therefore by the grace of God I will not be speaking from human experience or knowledge.

However I will share what the Holy Spirit taught me and as I have applied it together with my husband, the results we get is great.

It takes pure love for the word of God, commitment between both husband and wife for it work, communication and the desire for the Lord to reign in our individual lives for there to be harmony.

Personally, I have realised that by spending time studying and meditating in His word, I don’t have to try by my strength to do the things people expect of a Christian.

(Things like loving people even when they have not been nice to me, forgiving those who hurt me, living in harmony with my husband, being content with what I have and sharing the gospel with others).

I Samuel 2:9b says for by strength shall no man prevail.

You will always fall short no matter how hard you try which is why you will often hear a genuinely ‘nice’ Christian who is 'trying hard' say ‘I am trying to love that sister but she keeps stepping on my toes, I am trying to be patient with my husband but he is making it hard for me and does she think I am fool because I am a Christian? .

For me, I found out that the more time I spend with the word of God, these deeds flow effortlessly in my life. Of course it wasn’t like this before; I went to church like every other believer, prayed, maybe read my bible once in a while, try and do 'church things' and 'behaved' however I wasn't getting the result the Bible talked about in all aspects of my life.

I then thought to myself 'the bible is true, God cannot lie, there must be something I am missing so I started investing hours in studying the Word and while I do not claim to know it all, I am certainly getting result and not where I use to be and you will too if you invest time in bible study.

Let’s look at Ephesians 5:22, 25

Ephesians 5:22 – Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

The Lord said to me ‘when I submit myself to my husband, I am actually submitting to Him.

This changed everything for me.

It means as a wife, if I don’t submit to my husband, then there is no point saying ‘Jesus you are my all as I am already disobedient.

If I honour and respect my husband, I am honouring the Lord.
So I asked the Lord ‘What if my husband behaves in a way I am not happy with surely I will find it hard to submit to him or do it grudgingly and this could cause strife in the home?

Then He said to me’ You submit to your husband as unto me’ that is your duty.
You don’t choose when to submit or when not to. It has no condition attached to it.

I thought that was a hard saying.

The Lord went further and said, each of us (husband and wife) have individual responsibility as laid down by Him.
I have to do mine and my husband has to do his. They are not mutually dependent.
It is not in my place to judge or criticise my husband when he isn’t doing his.

Only the Lord can judge as He is the only righteous judge.

I breathed heavily but continued reading. I got to verse 25
Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

Now until I got to this verse, I thought submission was the hardest!

As Christ loved the church!!! Now that’s huge.

I think we need to study how Christ loved the Church for anyone to understand this verse.

John 1:11a – He came to his own and his own people did not receive Him (talking about Jesus)

Isaiah 53:7 – He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (Talking about Jesus)

Luke 23:34a – Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

1 John 3:16a (NIV) – This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

1 John 4:10 – This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Brethren, I could go on and on but Jesus loved the Church (us) completely. He forgave our sins, he cleansed us, He put his seal upon us and the enemy dare not touch us, we were His enemies yet He died for us.

How easy it is to love those who hate you, those who don’t want you, those who spat on you and chose a thief over you?
Yet Christ loved the church unconditionally.

Now he said to husbands, 'love your wife even as He loved the church'

Are you a husband reading this, the Lord says you must love your wife as He loved the church.
He didn’t say love her when she behaves nicely, obeys you, clean the house or prepares your food. I have read that verse several times yet couldn't find any condition attached to it.

It is not in your place to say ‘she is rude to me, she doesn’t obey me, she talks too much etc. The bible says ‘Love your wife, full stop.

How will loving a stubborn, rude wife yield any good result, you might ask?
Isaiah 55:8 our ways are not the ways of God.

If God asked you to do it, do it and leave the rest to God. The ways of man is to demand or command respect from the wife or impose it or in whatever way, but the bible way is to love that woman regardless of her attitude.
That’s how Christ loved you, warts and all.

Problems exist in home because everyone is doing what they believe is right. It doesn't matter if that's how your parents did it as long as it's not the bible way, it needs to be changed.

The husband think the wife is wrong and should change, the wife think exactly the same, no one is looking at their behaviour in the light of God's word! The word of God is a mirror. Go check yourself in there and see how you stand.

Do you promise to love your wife/husband till death do you part? You both said 'I do' on the day and Heaven heard it and recorded it.

Honour your covenant and 'do' marriage the bible way, you will be plesantly surprised at the result you get.
