Are you sleeping?

Matthew 13:24-28
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up

Jesus said the kingdom of his father in heaven is like a man which sowed good seed in his field!
Why did the master liken the kingdom of his father to a man which sowed good seed in his field?
It is because in John 14:2, Jesus said in his fathers house(the kingdom of heaven), there are many mansions, if it were not so, he would have told us so.
He was trying to establish the fact that only GOOD things comes from God.
If it is not good, it is not God!
If it is not God, it is not good!
Regardless of what men say, God is good. There is no evil in Him.
Some say their problems are God's ways of humbling them, others say it is to prune them, therefore they are passive and do not fight back.
A good father does not afflict his children with problems to humble them!
So where does problem come from?

In the text we read, verse 25 Jesus said 'but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.
He sowed it subtly not drawing attention to himself, the enemy of our soul is cunning.
He brings problem when you are fast asleep spiritually.
You only start finding out when the evil seed he sowed in your life start germinating and bringing forth evil fruit

Have you ever seen flies play on a hot burner? Never, if the fly tries it, it will die
Flies only converge on cold burners, they can play there, pass faeces there, do anything they like  there because the burner is cold
Any child of God who is not hot spiritually is a bedrock for all manners of afflictions to dwell on. The enemy will have a field day in your life, he will dwell there, dine there and even gather more demons to come feast with him. Why? Because your life is accommodating for him, you are fast asleep spiritually.

In 2 Cor 2:11, Apostle Paul said 'Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Brethren, Satan will take advantage of any child of God that is sleeping, whoever you are and whatever your title at church does not matter, if you are not spiritually alert, you are an easy food for the enemy.

He sowed the tares while men slept! This means spiritual sleep!

Proverbs 6:10 tells us ' Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep, so shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.
Poverty in the life of a believer is a sign of spiritual sleep.

Every believer is created to flourish
Psalm 1:1-3 tells us
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Don't let anyone deceive you, if you are not flourishing in life, a seed has been sown by the enemy. He sows a seed and it brings forth all manner of evil fruits.
Some people argue with scriptures, they say the word of God is old, not relevant for today, they analyse the Word to suit them hence they go through life limping. This is dangerous.
The devil knows that only the doer of the word of God can flourish so he deceives you into analysing the word your own way. That way, he can keep you forever in bondage quietly.

You might not agree with me but a poor christian struggles through life even though the power of redemption in Christ Jesus gave him the ability to soar high like the eagle. God cannot be blamed.
It is possible to be hungry in the midst of plenty. One of the seed the enemy sows in the life of a Christian is ignorance and he then blindfolds you to the truth. Where there is lack of knowledge, the people perish!

Lots of destiny are dealt with while men slept.
If you are a sleeping christian, the enemy is making decisions on your behalf and very soon you will start to see the unpalatable results of those decisions, sadly this is when believers start running helter skelter.
Lots of the roots of sicknesses and diseases are planted in the life of children of God while they are fast asleep, you only start to notice when the symptoms springs up and you start to have pain.
The bible says, the enemy sowed the tares while men slept and he went his way. After a while the tares appeared.

But there is good news for you!
1 John 3:8 says
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy. Alleluia!
Evil evil seed that has been planted while you were sleeping spiritually, I uproot them all in the name of Jesus. There is no evil seed that can defy the power in the name of Jesus.

However, you will need to take your rightful position and be alert as a child of God.
The one you are at battle with is relentless and you are sleeping?
1 Peter 5:8 tells us:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
He is constantly looking for lives to wreck, looking for places to sow sorrow, anguish, lack, fear, sickness and diseases. If you are not watchful and prayerful, he will come into your life.
Soldiers don't fall asleep when they are at war!
A sleeping soldier is an easy game for the enemy.
How do you stand against him? How do you stay alert at all times?
1. Be a stickler for the word of God
Psalm 119:130
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
A child of God who sticks his nose in the word of God daily is illuminating his life with light, darkness can not dwell there.
The word of God is light! Alleluia!

John 1:5 tells us
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

This is one of the reasons the devil doesn't allow you to study the word of God.
The word of God is light, the devil is darkness, he will fight tooth and nail to stop you studying the word of God, you can engage in all church activities, he doesn't mind that but when you start getting in the word, all hell will break loose.

The bible says in 1 Peter 1:23
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

God's word is incorruptible, it is light, as soon as you start getting into it, the Holy Spirit will minister to you and release the life in it into your life and as you become a doer of what you have read, liberty comes and the enemy cannot stand you. He will scurry away and go look for another life that is cold to oppress.

2. Ever increasing faith
A believer whose faith fails cannot exercise authority!
The power of faith is tremendous, your faith in what God said will cause you to be spiritually active and alert.
A christian who is double minded is game for the enemy, it is only a matter of time before your doubts puts you in the camp of unbelief which is the realm where the devil dwells, such believers can't receive anything from the lord. James 1:6-8
Those who come to the Lord must believe that He is. Heb 11:6

A man of faith cannot fall asleep spiritually, for faith comes only from hearing the word of God. The word of God is the food for faith.
A man of faith needs to be fed daily, the faith of yesterday cannot fight the battles of today.
Lions feed on fresh meat, that's one of the reasons why they are the king of the jungle.

When you see a believer who is relying on the word they studied last week or yesterday, spiritual laxity is setting in. Beware!
Be on top, be in control, stop sleeping, now is the time to be in charge

I pray that your faith fails not!

The Promise Keeper

Heb 10:23 (ICB)
Let us hold firmly to the hope that we have confessed. We can trust God to do what He promised.

As I study the scriptures, one of the things that stand out for me is the fact that God always do what He says He will do.
He keeps his word and brings it to pass in the life of the individual, family or nation not because of what they have done or not done but because that is His character, that is who He is.

The Lord is a promise keeper!

For some of us, we might struggle to accept or believe this completely because we live in a world of disappointments where people are not used to keeping their word.

Some of us had been let down in the past, now we struggle to trust others no matter how genuine they might be, unknowingly we approach God's promises with this attitude.
Though we agree mentally that God is good but to place our trust in His word completely is an uphill task for us.

Today I want to share Mary Magdalene's story with you. I studied it, asked the Lord questions about it and because it has blessed me , I want to share it with you believing it will bless you too in Jesus name.

Jesus knew he was here on earth for a reason and for a limited time, he also knew that after his mission here on earth had been accomplished, he would be crucified and he would resurrect on the third day and so he talked about it all the time to his disciples.

He gave them his word that he would resurrect. Matt 26:32.

To you reading this, it might not really mean much to you but the Lord knew that the days following his crucifixion would be long and dark for the disciples. They would suddenly be a lone sheep among wolves as the religious leaders who had always criticised and condemned them and the Lord for not observing the Sabbath day, not following Moses law among other issues would come for them.

The Lord knew all they would face, He knew it would look like they had been abandoned, he knew fear and doubt will grip them so he prepared them and gave them HIS WORD.

Let's read Matt 26:32 and see what the Lord said exactly:

'But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee'

That was the word he gave them before he was crucified.

Now Mary Magdalene wasn't one of the disciples, she must have heard the Lord talking about his resurrection when he spoke to the disciples and she believed him and held on to every word and waited patiently till she saw the manifestation of that promise.

Lets see what happened in John 20 (This was after the Lord had been crucified and buried)

  • verse 1-2, Mary Magdalene had been to the sepulchre on the first day of the week following the Lord's death and saw that the stone used to cover it had been taken away so she ran and called two of the disciples of the Lord as she assumed someone had taken the body of the Lord away. At this junction, her thoughts were probably running riots with the enemy whispering and telling her the Lord lied, for how will the promise of resurrection come to pass if his body was no longer there?

  • verse 3-5, the disciples came running with her, one stooped down, looked inside the sepulchre briefly but didn't go in.

  • verse 6-8, the other disciple went in, saw the clothes the Lord was buried in, believed but went back home and left Mary Magdalene there. May I at this junction say that James 2:19 tells us demons also believe and tremble so to just believe the word of the Lord isn't enough until you put action to your believing and that's what Mary Magdalene did.

  • verse 11, the Bible tells us 'Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping and refused to go home'. She remembered the Lord gave his promise that he would rise again and that's all that mattered, hence her refusal to go home like the disciples. Surely if the Lord said it, he would do it! He is a promise keeper!

Then something happened!!!

She stooped down and looked into the sepulchre, the same sepulchre the disciples looked into and saw nothing and decided to go back home, Mary Magdalene looked into it and saw two angels.

Hebrews 10:36 (NLT) tells us 'Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

The question is 'were the angels there all the time? probably, but only Mary got to see them and that's all that mattered not only that, she also got to see the Lord Jesus first in his resurrected body.

Mary had the promise of the resurrection like the disciples, believed like them but added action to hers, the Lord said he would resurrect on the third day, surely he would resurrect and so she stayed put by his sepulchre, waiting for him to resurrect, nothing wavering.

James 2:22(NLT) says ' you see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.

The Bible was referring to Abraham here who obeyed God and actually was going to offer Isaac as a sacrifice on the altar as he believed God was able to raise him from the dead should he sacrifice him.

The disciples were probably not fully persuaded so they went home.

Brethren, Jesus can be trusted.

Whatever he has said to you, he will do it.

To put your trust in someone or something is a huge step to take and the Lord Jesus is the only constant one we can trust to stay the same.

He told his disciples in John 14:6 that he would send another comforter to them and he did. In Acts 2, they received the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

He told Mary & Martha in John 11:23 that their brother would rise again and he did.

When the Egyptian pursued the Israelites, Moses said the Egyptian they saw that day, they would see them no more and they never did.
1 Cor 10:4 says Jesus was the rock that followed them in the wilderness.

Need I say anymore, the Lord keeps his word. What has he said to you, what promise are you holding onto?
Mediate on Hebrews 10:36 and receive strength and not faint.

He told Thomas in John 20:29 'Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed'.

You will receive what He promised you for He is a Promise keeper.
